about the artist

Hi, I'm Ruth. (abigail is my middle name)

I'm a 29 year old artist from London, and I paint atmospheric little worlds where you can rest.

I taught myself to paint in lockdown and I haven't been able to stop since. my work reflects a lifetime of feeling lonely, living in my own world, and searching for beauty in the ordinary.

Some of the places I paint might feel oddly familiar to you... like somewhere you've been to before, but forgot.

I hope that when you look at my art you feel peace, and like your deepest emotions are being understood without the need for words.

even though I'm a painter, not a writer, I have a deep appreciation for the power of storytelling. I get a lot of inspiration from various stories (in books, video games, anime and movies) which gives my paintings a slightly fictional atmosphere, like each one is telling a quiet story that's up to the viewer's interpretation.

I have a particular soft spot for video games. I've done a few game inspired pieces already, and I plan on doing more in the future.

the subjects and themes of my work vary a lot, because I only paint what I feel naturally drawn towards in the moment. But something that stays consistent, is a strong presence of light. It's my favourite thing to paint.

I'm a very sensitive person. I feel everything deeply, which can be draining at times. But painting gives me a way to channel my thoughts and feelings into creating.. which helps me see it as a strength, not a weakness.

When I first fell in love with painting, I never could have imagined that I would end up here, with my art in people's homes all over the word!

thank you for being here with me on my art journey, it really means the world to me.

  about me

My Story

I taught myself to paint in early 2021 and it quickly became the biggest passion of my life. I genuinely can't imagine my life without it now — it feels like something I was always meant to do, I just hadn't found it yet.

I'm drawn to the juxtapositions that exist in life — the way a place can feel both lonely and beautiful at the same time. The way darkness makes light more meaningful. I use contrast to explore the coexistence of hope and despair, loneliness and love.

My paintings are urban scenes, but seen through a lens of wonder. I want both myself and the viewer to sense fiction, story and imagination within real-world places. Ordinary places that hold an extraordinary feeling.

I hope when you look at my work, you can find a little bit of inspiration and peace. A safe place to rest.

My Art

I work exclusively in acrylic paint on canvas. I love the versatility of acrylic — the way you can build up layers, go from thin washes to thick impasto, and how quickly it dries so you can keep working and refining.

My work is rooted in urban scenes — wet streets, neon light, lone figures, windows, the city at night. I find something deeply poetic in these everyday places. There's a fiction hidden inside real-world scenes that I want to bring out.

Artists whose work resonates with mine include Keita Morimoto, whose nocturnal cityscapes explore urban isolation and quiet reverence in a way that feels very close to what I'm reaching for myself.
